Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta
Starting October 14, 2023, Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio, together with Laguna Clay Company, will be hosting a month-long celebration of ceramic arts with Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta (TPOF). Continuing our efforts to make ceramic arts more accessible to Filipinos through quality ceramic work and effective teaching services for all skill levels, we open our doors to all pottery curious, ceramic enthusiasts, and practicing ceramic artists.

Throughout the month, Sining Tahanan, a contemporary art exhibition will be available for all to visit and view. Two special courses featuring international ceramic artist, Dori Schechtel-Zanger and local glaze expert and potter, Aleister Cruz – will be available for all pottery enthusiasts to enroll in and expand their knowledge in the ceramic arts. All potters will also be invited to celebrate Laguna Clay Day by meeting Bryan Vansell, president of Laguna Clay Company and to join fun pottery games and a chance to win a raffle! At the end of the month, Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio will have a year-ender sale.
Sining Tahanan 2023

A Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition features the works of Master Potters, Tahanan Teachers, and Tahanan’s Emerging Artists. Sining Tahanan is organized each year to promote, nurture, and elevate the practice of the growing community of potters and ceramic enthusiasts in the Philippines.
The grand opening and reception of Sining Tahanan 2023 will be on October 14, 2023, Saturday, at 4:00 p.m. The gallery will feature the works of theartists from October 14 to November 14, 2023 and is open to all for viewing daily (except on Thursday) from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Full-Length Course with Dori Schechtel-Zanger

Dori Schechtel-Zanger is a prominent Argentinian-born ceramic artist, who moved to Israel in 1983 to continue her studio practice, which has spanned more than 35 years. She completed her bachelor’s degree in fine arts at the Department of Ceramic Design at Betzalel Academy of Arts and Design in Israel and at the Faculty of Arts in La Plata, Argentina. Her works are primarily sculptural, which she uses as the ground for her narratives, creating fascinating stories in both two and three dimensions, carrying critical points of view.
Her works have been exhibited in leading galleries and museums worldwide including New Taipei City, Yingge Ceramic Museum (Taiwan), Mint Museum USA, Gardner Museum Canada, Whatcom Museum Washington, Alcora Museum Spain, New Bedford Art Museum USA, Vallauris Institute of Art France, Keramikmuseum Westerland Germany, Eretz Israel Museum and many more. She is A member of the IAC and Artaxis, and the founder of 2 cooperative Galleries in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Dori Schechtel-Zanger will be offering local ceramic artists the opportunity to learn techniques she’s been using for her art in a course entitled “Image and Design Transfer Techniques on Sculptural and Functional Ceramic Works.” Ms. Zanger shares several of her methods in creating a whole new dimension to clay surfaces for both functional and sculptural work. Discover ways to transfer images and designs onto clay surfaces using the Mishima and wax resist technique, mono-printing, sgraffito, lithograph transfer, photo image transfer, stenciling, and silk screen printing. In the final project of this 6-session class, participants will make their own personal sculptural or functional project, using the techniques that they have learned under her guidance. The course has a total of 6 sessions with classes happening on October 15, 21, and 22. Students can enroll for the full course at Php19,000 per student. Mid-Length Course with Aleister Cruz
Aleister Cruz uses his day job skills as a Chief Strategy Officer of a multinational financial service company to his passion for ceramic arts and processes. He started his journey into pottery in 2002
and joined Tahanan Pottery as a teacher for the Pottery Wheel Classes. His motivation to teach is propelled by a desire to build an appreciation for the art and science behind ceramics. He approaches teaching with attention to framework and breaks down the process of pottery wheel throwing, glaze formulation, and analysis into units that are comprehensive and easily understood.
Glaze expert and potter Aleister Cruz demystifies glaze alchemy and shares with you the process of making your signature ceramic glazes in his mid-length course “Glaze Alchemy 1: Basics in Formulation and Analysis.” Boost the originality and identity of your pots beyond clay forms in this introductory hands-on course. Learn the basics of glaze formulation, mixing, testing, and troubleshooting in our mid-length course, which includes your Glaze Start-Up Kit and the Tahanan Pottery community to help you get started on your glaze journey. The course has a total of 2 sessions with classes happening on November 5 and 11. Students can enroll for the full course at Php15,000 per student. Laguna Clay Day

Laguna Clay Company, the US-based industry leader in all things ceramic, joins Tahanan in celebrating Tahanan Pottery October Fiesta 2023. To celebrate this wonderful partnership, November 4 will be called Laguna Clay Day.

Join us for an afternoon filled with clay form- making demonstrations by local Master Potters and Sculpture Artists. There will be a talk on the varied possibilities of working with Laguna Clay products by none other than the Laguna Clay Company President and owner himself, Mr. Bryan Vansell. Exciting Laguna Clay products are also in store for those who will be joining the Laguna Clay Raffle and the On-the-Spot Clay Forming Contests for both pottery throwers and hand- builders set on the day itself. Laguna Clay Day festivities will start at 2:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
Starting October 1, individuals who purchase any Laguna Clay products, such as clays, ceramic raw materials, and underglazes shall earn raffle tickets. For every Php 500 worth of Laguna Clay product purchases, the buyer earns one e-raffle ticket. Raffle draw will happen on November 4, 2023.
Tahanan Open Studios

Tahanan opens its studio doors to all pottery curious and ceramic enthusiasts. See the ceramic process firsthand and the forming techniques of invited Argentinian clay artist, Dori Schechtel- Zanger, and established resident Tahanan Artist, Rita Badilla-Gudiño, as they work together on their medium-scale clay works at Tahanan Studios.
The studio will be open on October 16, 17, and 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Tahanan Year-Ender Sale

To wrap up the month-long festivities, Tahanan Pottery Shop & Studio will be clearing our shelves to make way for new ceramic collections this coming New Year.
